William Van Doren

Welcome to The Very Rich Hours, a series of paintings based on each day’s sunset. I began these in June 1995, and the series includes every sunset since January 1, 2006.

Most of the sunsets were observed from the same place, facing the Blue Ridge, in an area known as Stony Point, north of Charlottesville, Virginia.

Currently the first pages to be updated with the most recent paintings are my Facebook Page@veryrichhours on Twitter; Instagram @williamvandoren.

William Theodore Van Doren. Sunset from Stony Point, Albemarle County, Va. Oil on watercolor block, 16 x 20.

Written by Roosevelt Jamison, recorded by O.V. Wright, covered by Otis Redding:

If I was the sun way up there
I’d go with love most everywhere
I’ll be the moon when the sun goes down
Just to let you know that I’m still around

That’s how strong my love is
That’s how strong my love is
